The light knobs on the front panel of Arcam A65 Plus amplifier's panel nicely contrast with the black color of the case. It has such a small height that the idea has crept into our mind: is it really a digital amplifier? Doubts were dispelled when we removed the lid: we saw a completely traditional design, just the radiators of the output transistors turned out to be low - there was an accurate calculation for the relatively small power of the amplifier. In the power unit there are only two but high-value capacitors. Hence, the feed channels are combined, which can lead to increased parasitic penetration of signals from channel into the channel. The signal from the source selected by the input selector goes both to the output connector of the preamplifier and to the Tape connector, used for listening to a recording that is made on a tape recorder with a "through" channel. Each channel is provided with two pairs of acoustic terminals, which allows you to connect speakers according to the bi-wiring scheme.

Arcam A65 Plus has a short-circuit protection at the output. The power indicator signals about such situation, changing the color from green to orange. A similar indication is also provided for the listening mode in the headphones. An orange glow indicates that the speakers are disconnected from the amplifier output.

Sound. The scene is drawn very correct: no one instrument "protrudes", each one is located in its place. The sound is so distinct that even in complex choral parts all performers are easily discernible. However, the transmission accuracy goes with some softness that veils the individual parts. This is noticeable mainly at low frequencies, where the trailing edge of sharp pulses is slightly blurred. Long basses sound better.
