Erected in the 12th century at the instigation of Bishop Maurice de Sully, Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral is a jewel of Gothic architecture that has dominated the Île de la Cité for over eight centuries. This year, Monnaie de Paris is honoring the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris to the public by minting a commemorative €2 coin, engraving for all eternity the lines of this jewel of Gothic art.

The obverse of this coin features a full-scale depiction of the cathedral's west façade, with its rose window emerging between the two towers. The official Notre-Dame de Paris logo also appears against the listel.
