When choosing a power supply, you need to consider several parameters that determine the type of charger you need:

brand of laptop;
output voltage (Output) in volts (V) and current strength in amperes (A);
PSU contact configuration for the charging connector of a laptop of a specific model.
Brand definition
First of all, you need to determine the brand of your laptop. The leading manufacturers such as TopON, LITEON, DELTA, LiShin are engaged in the production of power supplies. They make almost all models of laptop chargers for laptops of all famous brands: ACER, ASUS, DELL, HP, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Fujitsu-Siemens, Lenovo, LG, IRU, ROVERBOOK, MSI.
At the same time, power supplies for laptops of different brands often have the same electrical parameters, which makes them interchangeable. So, for example, some power supplies for ASUS devices are suitable for Toshiba laptops.
Some of the power supplies are produced by lesser-known companies. Such devices have original connectors and in most cases cannot be replaced by other types of chargers.

Output Voltage and Current
One of the main characteristics that should be considered when buying power supplies is the output voltage. The value of this parameter can be found by reading the technical documentation on the laptop. In addition, the output voltage is always indicated on the case of power supplies (regardless of their manufacturer), as well as on stickers located on the laptop itself.

Most chargers are designed for an output voltage of 15-20 V. This indicator is allowed to fluctuate within no more than 1-2 V. If the output voltage of the newly purchased power supply will significantly differ from the required, then the laptop and the charging itself will quickly exit out of service.

When choosing a charger, you need to pay attention to the output current, as well as power. Both of these indicators may be greater than those required for this model of laptop computer, but not less. If one of the parameters is lower than necessary, then the power supply will be excessively heated, which will lead to its breakdown.

To correctly determine the actual output power of your laptop, you need to multiply the output current by the voltage value. As a result, you get a value that determines the choice of power supply in terms of power. Power supplies are selected in terms of output current in the same way as in terms of output power. The main criterion is a value that must correspond to the value necessary for this model or exceed it. Only in this case, the charger will work reliably and for a long time. When choosing a power supply, it is enough to determine either the value of the current strength or the value of the output power. Both of these parameters are closely interconnected, therefore, the compliance of one of them with that indicated in the documentation for the laptop guarantees the correct choice of charger.

When buying a charger, you also need to pay attention to the polarity of the contacts. In most cases, all modern charging models have a “minus” on the external and a “plus” on the internal contacts.

Charger Connector Types
Power supplies vary in type of connector. These are mainly charging contact parts that are directly inserted into the laptop. For some laptop manufacturers with the same electrical parameters, the connectors of the power supplies are different. In addition, in some cases, when it is still possible to connect the contact to the laptop connector, the connection may be unreliable and further lead to a breakdown of the connection.
